Impact of latitudinal variations in vertical diffusivity on climate simulations

چکیده

[1] The currently available theoretical and observational evidence for a latitudinal structure of thermocline vertical diffusivity is synthesized and included in a state of the art coupled climate model. Compared to the standard background value of 0.1 cm s , the simulations with the latitudinal structure show only little change in the meridional overturning circulation or northward heat transport. However, two regions are identified which are sensitive to the value of vertical diffusivity: the equatorial band, where only small changes in sea surface temperature lead to precipitation responses with basin-wide teleconnections, and the North Atlantic, where diffusivity affects the spiciness of Labrador Sea water and subsequently the Gulf Stream path.

Paper undertakes software based numerical simulations in two different traditional houses in cold-dry climate of Tabriz and hot-arid climate of Yazd, The Eco Test software chosen for BIM simulations. Case study on real houses instead of hypothetical models can give more tangible results and choosing traditional houses can provide a good opportunity to compare both physical and thermal condition...

Atlantic pycnocline theory scrutinized using a coupled climate model

[1] Simulations with changed Southern Ocean wind‐stress, oceanic vertical mixing, surface freshwater forcing and global warming confirm the basic equations of Gnanadesikan’s (1999) theory for the Atlantic: one vertical scale, the pycnocline depth D, contributes inversely proportional to low‐latitudinal upwelling and linearly to Southern Ocean eddy transport. The maximum Atlantic overturning is ...

Effects of vertical variations of thickness diffusivity in an ocean general circulation model

The effects of a prescribed surface intensification of the thickness (and isopycnal) diffusivity on the solutions of an ocean general circulation model are documented. The model is the coarse resolution version of the ocean component of the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) Community Climate System Model version 3 (CCSM3). Guided by the results of Ferreira et al. (2005) [Ferreira,...

Impact of spatial-temporal variations of climatic variables on summer maize yield in North China Plain

Summer maize (Zea mays L.) is one of the dominant crops in the North China Plain (NCP). Its growth is greatly influenced by the spatial-temporal variation of climatic variables, especially solar radiation, temperature and rainfall. The WOFOST (version 7.1) model was applied to evaluate the impact of climatic variability on summer maize yields using historical meteorological data from 1961 to 20...
